AI is rapidly transforming the world, making its mark across industries, and now, it is stepping into a new space: India’s culinary heritage.
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, known for creating the iconic 90s show
Khana Khazana that turned Sanjeev Kapoor into a household name, is now set to launch India’s first AI-powered cooking series. The upcoming show, titled Khana Dil Se, promises to blend technology with tradition in a unique culinary experience.
About Khana Dil Se
Collective Studios has partnered with True Story Films, founded by filmmaker Hansal Mehta and producer Sahil Saigal, to unveil Khana Dil Se: An AI Journey Through India’s Kitchen.
Joining Hansal Mehta on this journey is Shamsher Ahmed, who is a professional from MasterChef India, serving as the subject matter expert and consultant for the project. At its core, Khana Dil Se is more than just a show about recipes. It is a cultural exploration of India’s kitchens, delving into stories of migration, memory, and identity through recipes passed down over generations.
What truly sets the series apart is the use of Artificial intelligence, which not only enhances the visual experience but also becomes part of the storytelling. From tracing the lineage of recipes to understanding regional influences, AI plays a key role in showing how India’s culinary traditions have evolved.
For Hansal Mehta, Food Is A Memory
Hansal Mehta said that food is deeply connected to memory. The director explained that when you cook a dish from another culture, it’s not just about following a recipe, it’s about stepping into someone else’s life. Hansal called recipes “humanity’s most durable cultural records”, passed down through generations and across borders, surviving when other things don’t. Talking about the show, Hansal said, “With Khana Dil Se, we want to use every tool available to us, including AI, to trace those stories before they disappear.”
Hansal shared the teaser of the show on his Instagram handle, and people reacted positively. One user wrote, “Superb,” while another added, “Exactly the kind of show that gets foodies like me excited and eagerly waiting for it. I hope it achieves what a show like Raja Rasoi and Kahaniyan did.” The show has truly got people excited!
