India Make History With T20 World Cup
India, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav, triumphed over New Zealand, captained by Mitchell Santner, to retain their T20 World Cup title. This win marked several milestones for India: they became the first team to secure the T20 World Cup on home soil, the first to win it consecutively after their 2024 victory, and the first team to clinch the title three times (2007, 2024, 2026).
Following the historic win, Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah visited the Hanuman Temple in Ahmedabad, seeking blessings with the T20 World Cup trophy.
A formidable Team India set new records by winning their third T20 World Cup title and becoming the first team to defend the title and win it as the host nation, after an impressive 96-run victory over New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. After this triumph, Surya, Gambhir, and Shah offered prayers and took blessings from Lord Hanuman, holding the prestigious T20I trophy.
India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian men’s cricket team’s victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final on Sunday, where they defeated New Zealand and successfully defended their title, becoming the first team to win two consecutive T20 World Cups.
