Sharing the update on social media platform X, Pune Metro encouraged commuters to start the new year responsibly, urging passengers to follow metro guidelines to ensure a safe and pleasant travel experience for everyone.
“Let us make a resolution in the upcoming year 2026 to follow all Pune Metro rules and make the metro journey safe and comfortable for ourselves and fellow passengers!” it tweeted.
In another post, the metro authority highlighted the environmental benefits of public transport, inviting Punekars to welcome 2026 with a sustainable and convenient metro journey.
“Let’s welcome the New Year with an eco-friendly Pune Metro journey. Let’s begin 2026 in a smart and comfortable way!,” another tweet read.
In parallel, the New Year is also expected to bring long-awaited relief to the city’s daily commuters. The much-anticipated Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor is slated to begin operations by March 2026, according to Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase.
The 23.3-kilometre elevated corridor, which is nearing completion with around 90% of the work done, is progressing as planned. Once operational, the line will feature 23 stations stretching from Megapolis Circle in Hinjawadi to Civil Court in Shivajinagar, with a depot located at Mann village.
Key stations along the route include IT hubs such as Infosys Phase II and Wipro Phase II, as well as major areas like Wakad, Baner, Balewadi, University, and Shivajinagar. Authorities believe the new corridor will significantly ease traffic congestion in busy zones such as Baner, Balewadi, and Hinjawadi, offering commuters a faster and more reliable alternative to road travel.
