The Delhi Police Crime Branch has uncovered an interstate network allegedly involved in the sale of counterfeit, stolen and illegally diverted cancer medicines worth around ₹9 crore. The syndicate operated
across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, with 17 people arrested so far.
According to police, the investigation found that some hospital and healthcare workers were allegedly helping the network obtain and divert expensive cancer drugs. Those arrested include oncology nursing staff in Faridabad, including a nursing in-charge, a former personal assistant to an oncologist, and employees and associates linked to medical stores and hospitals in Hyderabad and Alwar.
How The Network Worked
Investigators said the syndicate obtained medicines through several channels. These allegedly included counterfeit drugs, medicines stolen from hospital cancer wards and supplies diverted from government institutions and warehouses.
The drugs were then allegedly repackaged for sale. Police said the accused used acetone to remove batch numbers, MRP details and other identification marks before placing the medicines in old cartons.
The medicines were reportedly kept at residential premises without the required drug licences, valid bills or purchase records. From there, they were moved through a network of middlemen and distributed across different states.
Raids Began In July
The Crime Branch operation began on July 11, 2026, when seven teams carried out simultaneous raids at locations in Delhi and Navi Mumbai with the assistance of local police and the Drugs Department.
The following day, on July 12, an FIR was registered at the Crime Branch police station in Delhi.
DCP (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam said the Inter-State Cell had received information about an organised network supplying counterfeit and stolen cancer medicines to the public through an established chain.

Investigators also seized six empty vials, seven empty medicine boxes, acetone, thermocol, bubble wrap and tape, which police suspect were being used in the repackaging process.
Around Rs 50 lakh in cash, believed to be proceeds from the alleged illegal trade, was also recovered. The total value of the seized medicines has been estimated at more than Rs 9 crore.
