good health, regardless of age. Any deviation, whether slightly higher (120–130) or lower (around 90), falls into a borderline or suspected range and should not be ignored.

Hypertension is a major health concern and is often referred to as a “silent” condition, as many individuals may not experience noticeable symptoms. Even for individuals above the age of 60, blood pressure readings above 130/80 mmHg should not be overlooked. Dr R Ganesan emphasises the importance of consistent monitoring and medical consultation in such cases to prevent long-term health issues.
In some cases, doctors may allow slightly higher readings—up to 140/90 mmHg—while recommending lifestyle modifications such as reducing salt intake, maintaining a healthy weight, and incorporating regular exercise. However, as Dr R Ganesan notes, the ideal target for individuals above 65 remains around 130/80 mmHg.
