Maharashtra is once again witnessing a rise in temperatures following a spell of unseasonal rainfall that had briefly brought relief. Several parts of the state are now experiencing hot and increasingly
humid conditions, with citizens facing intensifying summer heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that maximum temperatures have risen across multiple regions over the past few days. North Madhya Maharashtra has recorded a notable increase, while heatwave conditions have strengthened in Vidarbha and Marathwada.
Heatwave Conditions And Weather Systems
According to meteorological observations, a heatwave system has developed over northwest India at an altitude of approximately 12.2 km above sea level. In addition, a fresh and potentially strong western disturbance is expected to impact the Himalayan region around April 15.
The IMD has warned that temperatures across the state are likely to rise further by 2-3°C over the next five days, potentially worsening conditions for residents.
While earlier rainfall had temporarily lowered both maximum and minimum temperatures, the current trend indicates a steady return of intense summer heat.
Temperature Trends Across Regions
On Sunday, several parts of Vidarbha recorded temperatures around 2°C above the seasonal average. Akola registered the highest maximum temperature at 43.1°C-2.4°C above normal and 1.1°C higher than the previous day.
Other key readings included:
- Amravati: 42.4°C
- Chandrapur: 41°C
- Gadchiroli: 41°C
- Wardha: 42°C
- Washim: 41.6°C
In Marathwada, Parbhani recorded 41.7°C, while Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar reached 40.4°C.
Across Madhya Maharashtra, cities such as Jalgaon, Malegaon, Sangli, Solapur, and Jeur also saw temperatures touch 41°C. In the Konkan region, temperatures have been recorded 2-3°C above normal, with Dahanu registering the highest at 36°C.
Hot And Humid Conditions In Konkan And Mumbai
The Konkan belt, including Mumbai, is currently experiencing dry yet humid weather conditions. Coastal districts such as Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are expected to see minimum temperatures between 24°C and 26°C, while maximum temperatures may range between 32°C and 34°C.
The combination of heat and humidity is likely to make conditions particularly uncomfortable during the afternoon hours, even in the absence of extreme temperatures.
Mixed Weather In Madhya Maharashtra
Parts of Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, and Solapur, may witness light morning drizzle over the next few days. However, temperatures are expected to rise sharply after noon, with maximum temperatures ranging between 36°C and 38°C.
According to a report in Loksatta, a yellow alert has been issued for Sangli and Solapur districts, warning of hot and humid conditions over the next 72 hours. Authorities have advised residents to limit outdoor exposure, especially during peak afternoon hours, and to step out only when necessary.
