Those hailing from Konkan will no longer have to queue for hours in crowded buses or trains to go to their hometown. Touted as the fastest ferry in South Asia, the Mumbai to Konkan RoRo (roll-on/roll-off)
ferry service is expected to start from October. The ferry, M2M, has received approval for the route from Mumbai’s Ferry Wharf (Bhaucha Dhakka) to Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, News18 Lokmat reported. News18 had earlier reported how the project is a part of the state government’s vision to enhance connectivity and provide relief to lakhs of people who travel to their native villages during peak festive periods. It will also come as a much-needed alternative to Mumbai-Goa highway which sees hours-long traffic snarls during festive rush.
When will the RoRo service start?
Earlier, this service was announced for the festive season of Ganeshotsav. However, the start was slightly delayed due to lack of approval.
Minister Nitesh Rane said the service will start only after the weather improves.
