Akshay Kumar is undoubtedly one of the busiest actors. He has films lined up in his kitty, and recently, it was reported that he will be reuniting with Anees Bazmee for a film. And now, a fresh update
is that he will be shooting for a Holi song with Vidya Balan. Well, an official confirmation is still awaited.
As Mid-day has reported that in the last week of March, Akshay will start the shoot of a Holi song for an untitled film with director Anees Bazmee. Ganesh Acharya will choreograph the track. Vidya Balan will be joining for the song. The portal quoted an insider saying, “It’s a full-blown Holi sequence, the kind that brings together a lot of colour, dancers, and celebratory energy. The plan is to have around 300-400 background dancers on set, as Akshay and Vidya’s characters lead the celebrations in the gully. The mohalla-style set also includes balconies and terraces from where revellers will join the celebration. Ganesh has also designed a hook step that he hopes will catch on.”
Anees Bazmee Reunites Akshay Kumar And Vidya Balan For New Comedy
Director Anees Bazmee gears up to start his next laugh-filled project starring Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan. This marks a reunion for Bazmee, Kumar, and Balan, who last collaborated in the comedy Thank You. Bazmee’s upcoming film promises the same rib-tickling entertainment. According to Bollywood Hungama, the director plans to fully utilise the unique comic strengths of both leads – Kumar with his effortless timing and Balan with her previously glimpsed humorous side in films like Bhool Bhulaiyaa. The film is expected to feature signature Bazmee-style funny scenes and playful moments.
Earlier in 2024, Anees Bazmee spoke to Pinkvilla about casting Balan. “I always felt that if anyone should play Manjulika, it should be Vidya ji, because she received so much love in that film,” he said. Bazmee, who shares a friendly rapport with the actress, added that Balan immediately connected with the story. “Out of all the stories I have heard, there is only one story that I really like,” she had said. Within the first ten minutes of the narration, Bazmee noted, she was fully engaged and decided to join the project.
Akshay Kumar’s work
The actor will be next seen in a horror comedy Bhooth Bangla. Directed by Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla blends old-school slapstick humour with atmospheric horror elements, a combination that has previously delivered cult hits in Hindi cinema. Set against the backdrop of a mysterious, crumbling mansion steeped in folklore, the film revolves around characters who find themselves entangled in supernatural chaos. The “bangla” in the title refers to an ancestral estate believed to be haunted, with secrets buried within its walls. What begins as a routine visit gradually spirals into a series of eerie yet comedic encounters involving restless spirits, hidden passageways and unexpected twists. Known for his mastery in balancing humour with tension, Priyadarshan has crafted the film with practical effects, situational comedy and character-driven chaos rather than relying solely on jump scares. The narrative draws inspiration from classic haunted-house tales while adding a contemporary layer of satire, misunderstandings and supernatural mischief.
The tone carries shades of Priyadarshan’s earlier comic sensibilities while leaning into a darker, more atmospheric setting, making it nostalgic yet fresh.
