Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 133rd episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, highlighted India’s growing achievements across sectors ranging from renewable energy and nuclear
science to culture, technology and citizen participation, placing special emphasis on the country’s expanding wind energy capacity.
Placing renewable energy at the centre of his address, the Prime Minister underscored India’s rapid progress in wind power, calling it a transformative force.
He said, “Today, wind power is writing a new story of Bharat’s development. Bharat has recently achieved a major milestone in wind energy. Now Bharat’s wind generation capacity has exceeded 56 gigawatts.”
Expanding on this, PM Modi described wind energy as an “invisible power” that is nonetheless indispensable, adding that it is propelling India forward.
He noted that the country has now reached the fourth position globally in wind energy capacity, underlining its growing stature in the renewable sector.
He also pointed to regional success stories, stating that states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Rajasthan are witnessing significant development in this sector.
Highlighting regions like Kutch, Patan and Banaskantha, he said areas once seen as barren are now hubs of renewable energy, creating employment and skill-building opportunities for the youth.
SCIENCE AND NUCLEAR ACHIEVEMENTS
Speaking on the reflection on national progress, PM Modi reiterated India’s long-standing approach of linking science with development.
He said the country’s scientists are advancing the civil nuclear programme, contributing significantly to nation-building.
He then cited a recent milestone in nuclear energy, noting, “In Tamil Nadu’s Kalpakkam, the Fast Breeder Reactor has achieved criticality. This stage means the beginning of the reactor’s operation phase. This is a historic milestone in Bharat’s nuclear energy journey.”
Calling attention to the indigenous nature of the project, PM Modi emphasised that the reactor has been built using domestic technology, marking a major achievement for India’s scientific community.
He also recalled witnessing the reactor’s core loading earlier, congratulating all those involved in the programme.
CULTURE, TRADITIONS AND NATIONAL PRIDE
The Prime Minister also spoke about India’s cultural traditions, particularly the Beating Retreat ceremony, which forms part of Republic Day celebrations.
He noted the increasing inclusion of Indian musical traditions in the ceremony and described recent editions as memorable, with performances by bands from the armed forces and CAPF.
Highlighting a digital milestone, he added that the music of Beating Retreat is now available on Waves OTT, urging citizens to listen to it and feel pride in the armed forces’ heritage.
TECHNOLOGY, EDUCATION AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION
Touching upon the role of technology, PM Modi said it has become integral to everyday life and is helping connect India’s past with the present.
He referred to a digital initiative by the National Archives of India, which has made over 200 million documents publicly accessible, encouraging citizens to explore the country’s history.
He also highlighted the ongoing census campaign, describing it as the world’s largest such exercise.
Stressing data security, he assured citizens that their information would remain safe and confidential, and explained that the process has been digitised with mobile applications and self-entry options.
SOCIAL MESSAGES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
The Prime Minister acknowledged achievements across sectors, including the performance of Indian students at the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad, where the team secured sixth place globally.
He praised the medal winners and expressed pride in their accomplishment.
He also encouraged citizens to support local industries, particularly the bamboo sector in the Northeast, urging people to purchase and promote such products to boost artisans’ morale.
PM Modi also extended advance greetings for Buddha Purnima.
He recalled the teachings of Gautam Buddha, stating that peace begins within and that self-mastery is the greatest victory, adding that these ideas remain highly relevant in a world facing conflicts and tensions.
