Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has been caught in the middle of the ongoing Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, several theatres across Karnataka have cancelled screenings
of the Tamil film amid protests by farmers and pro-Kannada organisations over the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
As reported by NDTV, several theatre owners have voluntarily halted Jana Nayagan screenings as a precautionary measure, citing concerns over law and order amid the escalating protests. Theatres have also removed posters, banners and cut-outs of Vijay from their premises.

Reportedly, at the city’s Urvashi Theatre, Jana Nayagan shows were stopped following a police advisory. The theatre staff removed the film’s promotional material, while its scheduled shows were replaced by the Kannada film Karavali. Police personnel have also been deployed outside the theatre as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident.
In Mandya too, pro-Kannada activists removed promotional banners of Jana Nayagan as tensions surrounding the Cauvery water-sharing issue intensified.
Jana Nayagan, which released on July 23,had reportedly opened across around 125 to 150 theatres in Karnataka, including more than 75 single-screen cinemas and nearly 50 multiplexes. The ongoing disruptions could now affect its theatrical run in the state.
