England captain Harry Kane on Monday became the first footballer on record since 1966 to score a penalty and concede a penalty in a FIFA World Cup game, after he scored the winner for England from the spot,
while also fouling Brian Gutiérrez to concede a penalty.
Kane converted from the penalty spot as the Three Lions overcame the setback of Jarell Quansah’s red card, the challenges of high altitude and a passionate home crowd to keep alive their pursuit of a first major international trophy in 60 years.
England have leaned on the brilliance of Jude Bellingham and Kane throughout the tournament and the star duo have now powered the Three Lions into a blockbuster quarter-final showdown against Erling Haaland and Norway.

Tuchel made three changes to the team that needed a heroic performance from Kane to prevent an embarrassing early exit to DR Congo.
Kane’s cross found Bellingham, who powered home his fourth goal of the tournament. But what appeared to be a commanding advantage was almost erased before the interval.
Quansah was shown a straight red card on 54 minutes after a VAR review for a mistimed lunge on Jesus Gallardo.
But just six minutes later, the 10 men had added to their lead when Gordon was wiped out by Mexico goalkeeper Raul Rangel and Kane dispatched the penalty.
Kane then restored England’s two-goal cushion from the penalty spot, taking his tournament tally to six goals and his season’s haul for club and nation to 73. But there was still more late drama, as Raúl Jiménez converted a penalty to make it 3-2 before England survived a frantic finale, throwing bodies on the line to preserve their lead.
