As the city prepares to welcome the New Year, Bengalureans heading out to parties, pubs, and restaurants have been issued a traffic and security alert. To ensure public safety and prevent untoward incidents,
the Bengaluru Police have imposed traffic restrictions, road closures, parking bans, and intensified checks across key areas of the city.
With large crowds expected to gather across central Bengaluru on New Year’s Eve, authorities have announced the closure of several major roads starting Tuesday night. From a security standpoint, traffic movement will be restricted and parking prohibited in the city’s core zones, especially those known for nightlife and celebrations.
Roads Closed For New Year’s Eve
According to police officials, MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Residency Road, St Mark’s Road, and Museum Road will remain closed to vehicular traffic from 10 pm on December 31 until 3 am on January 1. The restrictions aim to allow pedestrians to move safely while enabling police personnel to manage crowds effectively.
In addition, parking will be strictly prohibited from 4 pm on December 31 until 3 am the following morning on these stretches. To ease congestion, cab pick-up and drop-off points have been arranged near major malls and crowded locations. Traffic police have urged commuters to use only designated pick-up and drop zones identified by the authorities.
The police have also announced the closure of 50 key flyovers across the city, which will remain shut from 11 pm on December 31 until 6 am on January 1. On airport flyovers, only cars will be permitted during this period, while two-wheelers and other vehicles will face restrictions.
Drunken Driving Prohibited
Meanwhile, the traffic police have intensified their crackdown on drunken driving. Special enforcement drives were conducted across the city on Monday night, with 166 check posts set up for inspections. Over 3,000 vehicles were checked, and cases were registered against 450 motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police have appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities, follow traffic advisories, avoid restricted routes, and celebrate the New Year responsibly. (Reported by: Ashik Mulki, News18 Kannada, Bengaluru)
