India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train has officially started its commercial journey today, January 22, marking a big moment for Indian Railways. The Kamakhya-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, flagged
off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 17, received a strong response from passengers, with tickets selling out soon after bookings opened.
Designed for overnight travel, the semi-high-speed train connects Kamakhya in Assam with Howrah in West Bengal. It has 16 coaches and offers three travel classes: Third AC, Second AC and First AC. With faster travel time and modern facilities, the train aims to make long-distance journeys more comfortable.
The Kamakhya-Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express (Train No. 27576) departs from Kamakhya at 6:15 PM and arrives at Howrah at 08:15 AM the next day, completing the journey in 14 hours.
Passengers planning to travel on this train should be aware of a few important rules related to tickets, cancellations, food services, luggage and onboard facilities. Read them below:
– Only Confirmed Ticket Holders Can Travel: Indian Railways has made it clear that only passengers with confirmed tickets will be allowed to board the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express. Those holding RAC, waitlisted, or partially confirmed tickets will not be permitted to travel on this train under any circumstances.
– Catering Is Included In The Journey: Catering services are part of the train’s facilities. IRCTC will provide one litre of ‘Rail Neer’ drinking water and a newspaper free of cost to all passengers. Meals will be served based on the travel duration and route. The menu includes rotating options featuring popular Bengali and Assamese dishes (for dinner), along with tea and biscuits (for morning).
– Know The Ticket Cancellation Rules: Passengers cancelling their tickets should note that refunds depend on how early the cancellation is made. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 72 hours before departure, 25 per cent of the fare will be deducted. For cancellations made between 72 hours and 8 hours before departure, 50 per cent of the fare will be deducted. No refund will be given if the ticket is cancelled within 8 hours of the train’s scheduled departure.
– Premium Linen For Passengers: Passengers will be provided with high-quality mill-made linen during the journey. The linen kit includes a bedsheet, a pillow with a cover, a premium blanket with a cover, and a hand towel, ensuring a comfortable overnight travel experience.
– Luggage Rules Remain Unchanged: There is no change in luggage limits for the Vande Bharat Sleeper train. Passengers must follow the existing Indian Railways rules. Those travelling in First AC can carry up to 70 kg, Second AC up to 50 kg, and Third AC up to 40 kg. Carrying luggage beyond the allowed limit may attract extra charges or penalties.
