Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to embrace the government’s ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative during the upcoming festive season, calling on people to prioritise products made in India and support
local artisans and craftspeople.
Addressing the nation in the 137th episode of his monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi linked the appeal to the series of festivals approaching in the coming months, including Janmashtami, Vishwakarma Puja and Diwali.
“Our festivals and celebrations not only uphold our traditions but also provide us with opportunities to connect with one another,” PM Modi said.
He noted that Janmashtami will be celebrated on September 4, followed by Vishwakarma Puja in September, and said the occasion should be used to honour artisans, craftspeople and those engaged in traditional work.
‘Vocal For Local’ Goes Beyond Earthen Lamps
With Diwali also approaching, PM Modi renewed his call for people to buy locally made products.
“During this festive season, I once again urge you to be ‘Vocal for Local.’ Being ‘Vocal for Local’ does not merely mean buying earthen lamps; the vision behind it is much broader,” he said.
He asked people to check whether products they buy for their homes are made in India.
“Whatever item we purchase for our homes, do ensure to see that it is made in India,” the Prime Minister said, adding that taking pride in Indian-made products would help advance the country’s journey towards self-reliance.
Appeal To Influencers, Celebrities
PM Modi also called on people from the creative industry, influencers and celebrities to promote the message of self-reliance and encourage others to buy Indian-made products.
“It is also our responsibility to convey this message to as many people as possible. Our friends from the creative world, influencers, and celebrities also have a significant role to play in that,” he said.
“I urge you to personally embrace the ‘Vocal for Local’ spirit and inspire others to do the same,” he added.
The ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign encourages consumers to prioritise domestically produced goods and services. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with an emphasis on supporting local businesses, employment and domestic manufacturing.
