As HBO continues to explore the past of Westeros through projects like House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, attention is slowly shifting to what could come next. Many longtime
viewers have been wondering if the story might ever move forward instead of backward, especially when it comes to the surviving Stark siblings. Sophie Turner has now shared her thoughts on whether she would ever return as Sansa Stark.
Sansa’s journey ended on a powerful note in Game of Thrones. After years of struggle, she was crowned Queen in the North, securing independence for her people while Bran ruled the remaining kingdoms. For many fans, it felt like a rare moment of closure in a finale that divided opinion. Still, recent comments from George R.R. Martin has sparked fresh curiosity. The author revealed that while multiple spin-offs are in development, some sequel concepts are also being explored.
Will Sophie Turner return for the GoT sequel?
Speaking in a recent interview with The Direct, Turner was asked if she would be open to revisiting Sansa’s story. She responded with humour before getting candid. “Show me the money (laughs). I don’t know, I think it would be hard but also amazing to come back to it,” she said, suggesting that while the idea is tempting, it would not be an easy decision.
The actor also reflected on the unique energy of the original series and whether it could be recreated. “Maybe it would be an utter joy, or maybe it would be trying to cling on to something that was magic back in the day that can’t be recreated. I would have to see a script,” Turner explained, making it clear that the story would matter more than nostalgia.
Another key factor is how content she feels with Sansa’s ending. While the final season drew criticism, Turner believes her character emerged as one of the few clear winners. “But I feel that I was very happy with the way Sansa ended her story in Game of Thrones, and no one else was really happy with their ending,” she said. “I feel like I got a good one, and so I don’t know if I could revisit it.”
Previously, Kit Harrington was asked if he would return to the franchise. He told Variety, “No, god no. I don’t wanna go anywhere near it. I spent 10 years doing that. Thanks, I’m alright.” A Jon Snow spin-off was in the works, but Harrington later confirmed it was shelved as there wasn’t enough material for it.
Upcoming Game Of Thrones sequel and prequels
At present, HBO’s schedule is already full, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms set to arrive in January 2026 and House of the Dragon Season 3 following later that year. Although the previously discussed Jon Snow sequel is no longer moving forward, Martin’s remarks suggest that the door to Westeros’ future has not been fully shut just yet.
