At a time when social media is often dominated by influencers flaunting luxury lifestyles, a young professional from Bengaluru is drawing attention for a very different reason — her practical approach
to managing money.
A 22-year-old software development intern, Amy Arora, has gone viral after sharing how she manages her monthly expenses within a budget of about Rs 18,000 while living in the city. In a video posted on Instagram, she detailed how she allocates her spending and balances necessities with occasional personal indulgences.

Arora explained that rent takes up the largest share of her expenses. She stays in a paying guest accommodation and spends roughly Rs 7,200 a month, which she said is still relatively economical compared to renting a private apartment in Bengaluru.
To manage food costs, she depends on a mess service, spending close to Rs 3,600 each month. This helps her maintain a regular meal routine without resorting to frequent takeout or delivery.
Her commuting expenses are comparatively lower — about Rs 1,600 monthly — as she travels to the office only twice a week. According to her, the hybrid work schedule has helped reduce daily transport costs.
Despite keeping a tight budget, she also sets aside money for leisure and personal purchases. Around Rs 2,000 goes toward eating out or ordering food occasionally, while another Rs 2,000 is earmarked for online shopping. She also keeps approximately Rs 1,500 for miscellaneous expenses.
The video has struck a chord with many viewers online, with several praising her realistic and disciplined approach to budgeting. For many, her story highlights that living comfortably in a big city does not always require extravagant spending, but rather thoughtful financial planning.
