Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm cultural welcome in Slovakia on Sunday, with a performance of India’s national song Vande Mataram by Slovak artists emerging as one of the most memorable moments
of his arrival in Bratislava.

The rendition symbolised a unique cultural bridge between the two countries and highlighted the warmth with which the Indian Prime Minister was welcomed during his visit.
PM Modi arrived in the Slovak capital for a three-day visit at the invitation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blanar, and greeted with traditional cultural performances by local artists.
In keeping with Slovak customs, the Prime Minister was offered bread and salt, a traditional gesture symbolising respect, goodwill and hospitality. Sharing his experience on X, Modi described the offering as a reflection of Slovakia’s rich cultural heritage and the values of friendship cherished by its people.
The Prime Minister also appreciated a folk performance by Kopaniciarik from Slovakia’s Myjava region, noting that such traditions help preserve culture and history for future generations. He later met the artists and praised their efforts in showcasing the country’s cultural richness.
Members of the Indian community in Slovakia also gathered in large numbers to welcome Modi, raising slogans of “Modi-Modi”, “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. Modi thanked the community for their affection and said such gestures strengthen people-to-people ties between India and Slovakia.
The visit is particularly significant as Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Slovakia since the country’s formation. During his stay, he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Fico and meet Slovak President Peter Pellegrini.
Discussions are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, defence, automobile manufacturing, railway development and other strategic sectors.
