A Korean woman tourist, who was sexually assaulted by a ground staffer at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, recounted her ordeal and narrated the entire incident, according to a report by NDTV.
Kim Sung Kyung, who has consented to reveal her identity, recalled that the airport staffer took her near the men’s washroom on the pretext of a security check and did ‘inappropriate things’ to her.
The male staffer, identified as Mohammed Affan, was arrested after a formal complaint was lodged by the victim.
Kyung said that the accused approached her after her immigration check when she was heading towards the terminal to catch a flight to Korea, telling her that a ‘beeping’ sound was coming from her luggage.
He asked her to step aside for a personal check and thinking it was a serious issue, Kyung agreed.
“He asked me to come to the men’s washroom and did some inappropriate things. The way he approached and explained everything was very professional and very serious”, Kyung said , as quoted by the outlet.
The staffer, she said, then touched her in an inappropriate manner. “He kind of squeezed the body in a very inappropriate way,” she said.
Meanwhile, on the way to the men’s washroom, the staffer was explaining to her ‘safety protocols’, which appeared normal to her.
“After everything seemed done, he suddenly hugged me and said ‘thank you’. I was freaked out,” Kyung said, adding that her priority at the time was safely moving away from the man.
However, since it was already her boarding time, she reached out to a Singapore Airlines staff, who told her that it was not under the protocols to conduct a personal check. The airline staff then helped her report the incident, following which, Affan was taken into custody by the airport security personnel and handed over to the police.
