Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged Union ministers to strengthen their presence on social media, particularly Instagram, and step up public outreach during the Cabinet meeting.
According to the
CNN News18 sources, the PM asked ministers how many of them were actively using Instagram and highlighted the massive youth engagement on the platform.
He advised every minister to maintain an active presence on Instagram not just by posting updates on the government’s work but also by engaging directly with young people through interactive content.
The PM also encouraged ministers to create reels and other engaging formats to connect more effectively with the younger generation.
“Youth are on Instagram. They are the citizens we need to continuously engage with,” the prime minister is learnt to have told the ministers.
PM Modi Posts Midnight Video In Reel Format
Hours before urging Union ministers to embrace Instagram and create reels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself posted a short-form video on the platform around midnight. The timing and format of the post underscored the growing importance the government is placing on digital-first communication.
Notably, Modi opened the video with the word “Friends”—a greeting he has frequently used while addressing large public gatherings, including international audiences. The familiar salutation, combined with the Reel format, gave the message a conversational tone, mirroring the style he later encouraged ministers to adopt for engaging with younger audiences.
Instagram Push Comes As Gen Z-Led Jantar Mantar Protest Dominates Social Media
The Prime Minister’s call for ministers to strengthen their Instagram presence comes at a time when the ongoing Jantar Mantar protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak have become one of the country’s biggest social media conversations. Led largely by Gen Z students, the agitation has gained momentum through Instagram reels, viral videos, and live updates, turning digital platforms into a key space for mobilisation and public engagement.
