Kantara: Chapter 1, the much-awaited prequel to Kantara, is set to release worldwide on October 2, 2025. Directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, the film has become one of the most anticipated Indian releases
of the year. Now, just days before its theatrical debut, reports suggest that key details of the storyline may have been leaked online.
According to a report by Gulte, the narrative unfolds centuries before the events of the first film. Set during the reign of the Kadamba dynasty in 300 CE, the story takes place in the mystical forests of Banavasi, considered the birthplace of Daiva traditions. It is here that divine spirits are said to have awakened, shaping the roots of the lore audiences witnessed in the 2022 blockbuster.
Rishab Shetty As A Naga Sadhu In An Origin Story
If reports are accurate, Rishab Shetty will be seen playing a fierce Naga Sadhu — a mystic warrior who bridges the mortal and divine realms. His character is described as a spiritual force, catalyzing the union of ancient rituals, tribal struggles, and supernatural elements.
Unlike the first installment, which offered only glimpses into Panjurli Daiva’s world, the prequel promises a detailed dive into the mythology. Fans can expect a cinematic exploration of faith, folklore, and spiritual awakening unlike anything previously seen in Indian cinema.
Joining Shetty are Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Devaiah in prominent roles, while veteran Malayalam actor Jayaram is also expected to feature significantly. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, the project reunites the core creative team, with music by B. Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematography by Arvind Kashyap.
