Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie, King, is easily one of the most anticipated films of 2026. His fans are eagerly waiting for him to appear on the big screen and spread his charm yet again. Helmed by Siddharth
Anand, the film also features Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Abhay Verma in key roles. The film is all set to take over theatres in December 2026, but before that happens, Siddharth Anand has spilled some interesting beans on it. In a recent interview, he spoke about the box office pressure since he has delivered the blockbuster Pathaan with SRK.
Is Siddharth Anand worried about SRK’s King’s box office performance?
Siddharth, who has helmed films like War, Fighter, and Pathaan, spoke to Variety India recently and opened up about dealing with the pressure of the box office. He, along with King Kha,n rewrote history in 2023 with Pathaan. People now have high expectations from King, too, since the iconic duo has reunited for it. On being asked if there’s any pressure to achieve a certain number for King, the director said, “I wouldn’t say there’s pressure, but I would say there are expectations. And that comes when you work with a megastar like SRK. So, I’m aware of those expectations. But if I start pandering to them, then it’s a mistake; I’ll go wrong in my filmmaking. Because if there were a formula for catering, then everyone would be making blockbusters.”
He further continued that he didn’t make Pathaan ‘with that intention, or with the dream of doing the numbers it did.’ He believes that if one starts following a success formula, then you start second-guessing what the audience will like. Anand also said that they are working hard on King as it’s their first film. He added, “We need to pass the test again with the audience. We are working with that intention. We are aware of expectations, but we don’t succumb to the pressure.”
Recently, Shah Rukh dropped a mindblowing video of King to officially announce the release date. Along with it, he wrote, “#KING is Ready to ROAR on 24.12.2026 in Cinemas.” Take a look:
