Comedian Samay Raina, who recently opened up about his Still Alive phase on Vaibhav Munjal’s podcast, also spoke about the comedians he admires — and had high praise for Kapil Sharma. Samay, who has long
described himself as a fan of Kapil Sharma, called him one of the greatest comedians of this era, praising his consistency and relevance despite the scale and pressure of his show. There have also been rumours that Samay Raina could appear on The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix alongside Ranveer Allahbadia, although he has not confirmed the same. Speaking about Kapil and his body of work, Samay said, “Kapil Sharma greatest hai humare time ka, mujhe lagta hai. Matlab body of work dekho itne saalon ka — funny hai, aur stakes kitne bade hote hain. Har episode mein 2-3 crore lagte hain, bade-bade guests aate hain… phir bhi kabhi miss nahi karta. Hamesha funny, hamesha deliver karta hai. Life mein bahut kuch dekha hai usne, phir bhi itne saalon baad bhi relevant hai. Kya legend hai.” He also named Sunil Grover as his personal favourite, praising his range and memorable characters. “Mujhe kaun sabse zyada pasand hai? Sunil Grover. Sunil Grover bahut, bahut talented hai. Uske characters toh insane hote hain.” When asked about his favourite character, samay added, “Mera favourite character? Bahut saare hain. Salman Khan wala bahut achha tha, bahut funny. Gulzar bhi mujhe kaafi pasand aaya.”

Before India’s Got Latent got mired in controversy and was shut down, Kapil Sharma was set to appear as a guest on Samay Raina’s show. In his stand-up special Still Alive, Samay revealed that Kapil reached out to him during the backlash, texting him to say how much he loved the show. Calling the gesture meaningful, he recalled, “B Praak came to criticise us. He said, ‘He will never attend our podcast’. Who called you, bro? All of them were ready to eat us alive. Politicians, celebrities, Sunil Pal. He said, ‘They should learn from Kapil Sharma’. And Kapil Sharma was to be the next guest on the show and he was messaging me how he loved my show.”
Meanwhile, Samay Raina has confirmed that India’s Got Latent is returning with a second season. Currently in Italy, Samay Raina is taking a short break before heading to Amsterdam, where he is set to perform a trial show.
