Delivery partners often work long hours and most apps allow customers to give tips as a way to show appreciation. Recently, one rider arrived for a delivery with his young child. Seeing his effort, the
customer wanted to reward him with a tip. Surprisingly, the delivery partner politely refused the cash and said all he wanted was a good rating for his work. He didn’t explain why, but his simple request touched many hearts online.
The customer later shared that tipping after delivery isn’t possible on the Swiggy app, especially for Instamart orders, so he couldn’t provide a tip digitally. Sometimes, delivery workers prefer cash tips to cover expenses like petrol, but even then, there’s no option to add it after the order is completed. The customer added that the tip was to simply appreciate a hardworking father who goes the extra mile.
Delivery Partner’s Honest Request Wins Hearts
Taking to X, the individual explained, “A Swiggy delivery person came to deliver some Instamart stuff today. While he was at the door, I realised that he had someone on his bike. When asked, he said it was his kid. I usually tip directly. He politely refused the tip. He just wanted a good rating for his service. Unfortunately, there’s no option to tip after delivery on the Swiggy app.”
“I checked with Swiggy via the app and they confirmed that tipping after delivery isn’t possible (at least for Instamart, not sure about others). Sometimes, when we add a tip during checkout, delivery partners suggest cash would’ve been better (for their petrol expenses). In those cases, too, there’s no way to tip afterwards. I’m not saying I’m pro-tipping or anti-tipping. This was just a genuine attempt to show appreciation and respect for an honest, hardworking father,” he added.

Reacting to the post, a user wrote, “When he refused the tip, why to hit his self esteem. Suppose yourself in his shoes. If your boss or some senior colleague gives you a tip when you don’t feel like taking it, how do you feel.”
Another shared, “I’m sure if we all adopted a more lenient tipping culture, a lot of our delivery friends are going to be happy.”
“Just tip him in cash. If he doesn’t take it, that’s his pride, so don’t force it,” a comment read.
An individual stated, “Faced the same issue, Zomato, Instamart, BlinkIt, they should provide a feature to tip after service. I ordered something and saw the guy was handicapped, so I wanted to tip him, but didn’t have cash, so I thought I would tip on the app but didn’t get any option.”
Another mentioned, “Just offer a glass of juice, if possible.”
One more added, “Keep 250 ml bottles of water and offer those to the delivery people. They appreciate it.”
