Superstar Rajinikanth is currently busy with preparations for his much-awaited sequel Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. While the makers are yet to make an official announcement, fresh reports suggest
that the film’s next shooting schedule is likely to commence later this month.
Jailer 2 Shooting Schedule: What We Know So Far
According to online reports, the team behind Jailer 2 is expected to begin a fresh shooting schedule from January 20, 2026. The upcoming leg of the shoot is said to be a two-day schedule planned in Athirappilly, Kerala, a location known for its scenic waterfalls.
That said, the development remains unofficial, with no confirmation yet from the makers or the production team.
Vijay Sethupathi Confirms Cameo Appearance
Adding to the excitement surrounding the sequel, Vijay Sethupathi recently confirmed his involvement in Jailer 2. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor revealed that he has done a cameo appearance in the film.
He stated that he agreed to the role purely out of admiration for Rajinikanth and for the opportunity to learn from the superstar, calling it an experience driven by respect and affection rather than professional obligation.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is an action-comedy drama and serves as the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. Apart from Rajinikanth in the lead, the film is expected to feature appearances by several prominent actors including Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Vidya Balan, and Mithun Chakraborty.
Recently, Mithun Chakraborty claimed in an interview with Bengali media that Shah Rukh Khan would also appear in the film. However, the makers have not confirmed this claim. Reports have also suggested that Nora Fatehi may feature in a special dance number, though this too awaits official confirmation.
What’s Next For Rajinikanth After Jailer 2
Once Jailer 2 wraps up, Rajinikanth will move on to his next project, tentatively titled Thalaivar173. The film will be directed by Cibi Chakravarthy, best known for Don, and will be co-produced by Kamal Haasan under the banner of Raaj Kamal Films International.
The film will feature music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Initially, the project was announced with Sundar C as the director, marking a potential reunion. However, the filmmaker later exited due to prior commitments.
Subsequently, several directors including Ashwath Marimuthu, Nithilan Saminathan, and Ramkumar Balakrishnan were reported to have narrated scripts to the superstar.
In a recent media interaction, Rajinikanth confirmed that Thalaivar173 will be a full-fledged commercial entertainer and is expected to go on floors in April 2026.
