More than three decades after Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi was released, a surprising behind-the-scenes story has come to light. Actor Tikku Talsania, who played a key role in the 1991 rom-com, recalled that
Aamir Khan wasn’t fully convinced about one scene just days before the film hit theatres.
Tikku Talsania recalls Mahesh Bhatt’s call about Aamir Khan’s concerns
Speaking to Friday Talkies, Talsania shared that director Mahesh Bhatt had called him with some last-minute news. “…The moment I heard that, I knew something was wrong,” he admitted. Bhatt explained that Aamir had raised a concern about a sequence involving their characters. Talsania confessed he was worried his entire scene might be removed from the film.
Aamir Khan’s issue with the Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi scene
On reaching the sets, Talsania noticed Aamir’s respectful gesture – the superstar even offered him his chair. The actor revealed that the scene showed Aamir’s character Raghu accepting money from him, something Aamir felt was against the spirit of the role. The actor remembered Aamir insisting on a change: the money could be offered, but Raghu shouldn’t accept it. That small detail, he felt, kept the character’s arc consistent.
‘Aamir touched my heart’
Looking back at the incident, Talsania said, “He touched my heart that day,” adding that Aamir’s dedication to watching the film “25 times to fix one detail is not a small thing.”
While Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahi went on to become a cult favourite, Tikku Talsania’s career also included films like Andaz Apna Apna, Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke and Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya. Aamir Khan, meanwhile, was recently seen in a cameo in Rajinikanth’s Coolie, released on 14 August 2025.
