James Cameron has returned to the big screen with the latest instalment of his blockbuster Avatar franchise. Avatar: Fire and Ash has been drawing massive crowds to theatres and earning widespread acclaim
across the globe.
However, what has particularly caught the attention of Indian audiences is an unexpected twist. Soon after the film’s release, actor Govinda began trending online, with several netizens sharing alleged clips claiming to show his cameo in the film. This sparked widespread curiosity, leaving a large section of the internet wondering whether Govinda actually appears in Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Govinda’s ‘cameo’ in Avatar 3
Even after several months, Bollywood’s Hero No. 1 continues to be linked to Hollywood’s biggest money-making franchise for an unexpected reason, one that keeps pushing him back into the spotlight every time James Cameron releases a new instalment.
This time it was no exception. Upon its release several posts surfaced on X, showcasing what appeared to be different scenes of Govinda in the film. His blue-skinned face and body as a Na’vi perfectly matched with the other characters of Pandora, the film’s universe. In one image, he is even seen dressed in traditional Indian attire, delivering his popular “Hata sawan ki ghata” dialogue from David Dhawan’s 1997 romantic comedy Deewana Masatana and even interacting with the film’s protagonist, Jake Sully.
While some users claimed it was a post-credits scene, others suggested that his surprise appearance had been a well-kept secret by James Cameron until now.
A netizen wrote, “Ain’t no way James Cameron convinced Govinda to do a cameo in Avatar 3,” followed by crying emojis. Another wrote, “Yr iss scene pr goosebumps aa gye the”.

What’s The Truth Behind Govinda’s Cameo?
Sorry, Govinda fans, but if you’re wondering whether there’s any truth to his appearance in Avatar: Fire and Ash, here’s the reality: the video is fake and generated using AI (Artificial Intelligence). The clip showing Govinda speaking in a local Mumbai dialect, while Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his family react in the background, does not appear in Avatar: Fire and Ash.
When Govinda Claimed That He Got An Offer For Avatar
The trend appears to have originated from an old interview in which Govinda claimed he was approached for the original Avatar film. During a conversation with Mukesh Khanna, the actor said he turned down the project, which later went on to become one of the biggest films of all time, because he wasn’t convinced by the concept.
He said, “I even left an offer of Rs 21.5 crore, although I remember this because it was painful. I had met a Sardarji in America and gave him a business idea to work in sweets and delicacies. Some years later, he said that the idea worked wonders for him. There, he made me meet James Cameron. He asked me to do a film with James, so I invited them for dinner to discuss about it.”
He added, “Picture ka title bhi maine hi diya tha. Maine Rajesh Khanna ji ko dekha tha left hand kata hua… maine kaha, ‘Yaar accha aadmi he pata nahi kyu ajeeb sa role kar liya!’ Toh maine kaha, ‘Second time banegi Avatar!’ Toh mujhe kehta hai, ‘The hero is lame!’ (I had only given the title.
I had seen Rajesh Khanna and wondered why he did that part. I only predicted the sequel). Maine kaha, ‘Lame? Govinda! Hello? I am not doing your picture!’ He said, ‘I am offering you 18 crores.’ I said, ‘I don’t want your 18 crores.’ He said the shoot will be for 410 days. I said that is okay, but if I paint my body, I will be in the hospital!”
The original Avatar, released in 2009, starred Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. Its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, appeared in 2022. The third film in the franchise was released in theatres on December 19.
