Former India and Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was left in awe as youngster Prashant Veer went for his shots at the franchise’s nets session, with a lot of responsibility on the latter’s shoulders,
having been bought for a whopping Rs 14.2 crore in the IPL 2026 mini auction.
Dhoni is not known to hand out praise; that is what gives his words such weight in the Chennai Super Kings dressing room. So when the CSK legend was heard applauding Veer’s strokeplay in a training session, it stood out as far more than just another social media video.
In a Chennai Super Kings practice clip doing the rounds, Veer is seen batting in the nets with Dhoni right behind him. The sequence is short but telling. Veer lifts one through the offside and Dhoni goes, ‘Shottt’.
Moments later, a cheeky scoop follows, he tracks it and signals a four. Then comes a crisp straight drive and once again, the reaction from behind the stumps: ‘Shottt’. Watch the video here:

It is the kind of video that works on two levels. On the surface, it is a senior pro appreciating a few well-struck shots in the nets. But within the Chennai Super Kings setup, Dhoni’s approval carries far greater weight.
Young cricketers in the camp often speak about how even a brief word from him can calm nerves, boost confidence and reinforce a sense of belonging.
More than just nets, Veer arrived at Chennai Super Kings with a price tag that brought instant scrutiny. The auction buzz generated excitement, but expectations as well, ensuring every net session, appearance and clip would be watched through that prism.
CSK begin their IPL 2026 campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.
