Gangtok, Aug 29 (PTI) The Sikkim government will switch to a digital-first system for several tourism-related services from September 1, according to an official order issued on Saturday.
The Tourism and
Civil Aviation Department said applications for registration of hotels and resorts, bed and breakfast establishments, service apartments, holiday homes, homestays and restaurants would have to be submitted and processed online through the Single Sign-On (SSO) portal.
The move is aimed at simplifying procedures and ensuring smooth implementation of digital services, the order said.
Even in cases where applicants submit physical applications, designated departmental staff will process them through the online system, it said.
For services that are not yet available online, including registration of travel agents, adventure tour operators, outdoor photographers, tourist guides and cooks, physical submission of applications will continue for the time being, it added.
The bank receipt system through the State Bank of Sikkim will also be discontinued for these services from September 1, and QR codes linked to sound boxes will be used for payments, and QR payment receipts will be accepted as the sole proof of payment, the order said.
“All concerned DTOs and TICs are directed to ensure strict compliance with the above instructions and facilitate a smooth transition to the digital payment and services delivery system,” it said.
The department said the move was intended to make it easier for tourism stakeholders to do business in the state. PTI COR SOM
