Chennai, Apr 20 (PTI) With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election campaigning approaching its final stretch, TVK chief Vijay on Monday undertook his most extensive campaign so far in the city.
While in the
morning his high-octane road show drew immense crowds in areas like Panchatti and Ponneri in the Tiruvallur district, post 2 pm, Vijay brought North Chennai to a standstill.
Thousands of supporters braved the heat to catch a glimpse of their leader.
The campaign atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, with his supporters seen waving TVK flags and chanting slogans.
In North Chennai, Vijay’s movement on Monday centred on Villivakkam, where he campaigned for the party’s top brass, Aadhav Arjuna. He then went to the ICF area and Perambur: The roadshow moved through railway colonies, drawing massive crowds of workers and local residents. Vijay’s road show also popped into Shenoy Nagar and MGR Nagar.
On April 19, he was campaigning in Tiruchi East, covering key junctions including the Marakkadai junction, Wireless Road, Thendral Nagar Junction, K K Nagar Bus Stand, and Kottapattu. During his route, he offered prayers at the Pacha Nachiamman Temple, Noorul Hudah mosque, and St Antony’s Church. Particularly, his church visit, where he notably walked on his knees as a gesture of devotion, went viral.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in a single phase on April 23, with the counting of votes set for May 4.
TVK chief is making his electoral debut by competing from two constituencies: Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East.
Campaigning will conclude at 6 pm on April 21. PTI JR JR ADB
