Ishan Kishan was batting on 80 runs from 37 balls on Saturday (March 28) when he decided to play a cheeky shot and add at least four runs to his and Sunrisers Hyderabad’s tally in the IPL 2026 match against
Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. But Phil Salt produced a super effort on the field and completed a flying catch with one hand on the sixth ball of the 16th over to end his knock.
Salt, who had earlier completed a controversial catch of Heinrich Klaasen in the first ball of the 14th over, stunned everyone present at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with his magnificent effort on the field and helped Abhinandan Singh take his first wicket in the IPL, that too of a well-set batter.
Salt’s super effort that resulted in Ishan’s dismissal stunned everyone present at the stadium, and the clip of it is now going viral on the internet as well.

Had Phil Salt failed to complete that catch and Ishan Kishan gone on to score a century in the season’s opener, he would have entered the history books as only the second player in IPL history to score a hundred in his first match as captain.
So far, only one cricketer – Sanju Samson – has achieved that rare feat.
Samson, who is set to feature as a wicketkeeper-batter for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 after joining them in a trade deal from Rajasthan Royals last year, had scored a century on his captaincy debut for the Jaipur-based franchise against Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 12, 2021. In that match, he smashed 119 runs off just 63 balls in a 222-run chase.
