Vijay summoned by CBI
Vijay has been summoned by the CBI in connection with its investigation into the Karur campaign stampede that took place last year. In October 2025, the Supreme Court ordered a CBI probe into the incident.
The stampede occurred on September 27, 2025, during a political rally organised by Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, in Karur district of Tamil Nadu. The incident took place on the Karur-Erode highway at Velusamypuram following a massive crowd surge.
At least 41 people lost their lives in the stampede, including nine children and 18 women. More than 100 others were injured in the incident, making it one of the deadliest political rally tragedies in the state.
The investigation into the circumstances leading to the stampede is ongoing.
