Comedian-actor Sunil Grover celebrated his 48th birthday on August 3. On the special occasion, Sunil’s industry colleagues, friends and fans showered the birthday boy with a flurry of wishes. Of course,
it was impossible for him to thank all of them individually, so he decided to express gratitude to his well-wishers by uploading a thank-you post on Instagram. Sunil also attached a picture of a sketchbook along with the post, featuring an illustration of himself with the words “Diamond Raja” written on it.
The drawing, done by Sunil Groverson Mohan, captured a cartoonish representation of the comedian dressed in his quirky costume. Viewers of The Great Indian Kapil Show will remember the outfit from his multiple appearances in the comedy-based programme. The 48-year-old also held a mic in his hand and flashed his signature beaming smile. “Happy Birthday, Diamond Raja,” read the words on the sketchbook.
Story Behind Sunil Grover As Diamond Raja
Sunil Grover earned the nickname Diamond Raja because of a humorous sketch he performed on Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show. In the episode, he slipped into the shoes of a struggling actor auditioning for a role through his comic talent while showcasing his singing and dancing abilities.
The side note read, “Thanks for all the Birthday wishes. It was a working birthday yesterday. I normally like it if I get a chance to work on this day. Love and gratitude to all. Posting a gift from my son Mohan (red heart emoji).”
Celebrities Wish Sunil Grover Happy Birthday
Reacting to the photo, Rajkummar Rao wrote, “Happy birthday, mere bhai (my brother)”. Archana Puran Singh, who acts as the co-judge of The Great Indian Kapil Show, commented, “Happyyyyyy birthday Sunil! You are a rockstar! Much love … and hugs.” “Lots and lots of love!
