About Tumbbad 2
Directed by Adesh Prasad, the film marks the return of Sohum Shah, who reprises his role while also serving as co-producer. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has joined the cast in a key role, adding to the scale of the sequel.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently opened up about his role and shared, “Tumbbad has always been a film I admired for its originality and atmospheric storytelling. When Sohum shared the vision for the sequel, I liked the story and joined them on their journey. Collaborating with Sohum Shah and Pen Studios on a project of this scale is truly exciting. The character I’ll be portraying has many layers, and I’m looking forward to exploring this immersive universe with such a passionate team.”
Earlier, actors including Akshaye Khanna were said to be under consideration for the part before Nawazuddin Siddiqui was finalised. The actor has previously spoken about his appreciation for the original film’s storytelling and atmosphere.
Sohum Shah remains closely involved in the project beyond acting, contributing to the development of the script and the visual tone of the sequel. Backed by Pen Studios, Tumbbad 2 is expected to further explore the psychological and folkloric elements that defined the first film.
The original Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, was noted for its distinctive narrative and atmospheric storytelling. Set in colonial India, it followed a man’s pursuit of hidden treasure guarded by a cursed entity, while examining themes of greed.
Despite a modest theatrical performance at the time of its release, the film gained significant recognition over the years and developed a strong following, particularly after its re-release in 2024.
