Jana Nayagan, Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited final film, was originally scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026, aligning with the Pongal festive window. However, with the film’s CBFC certification
still pending, the makers have been forced to defer the release, leaving fans disappointed and the industry buzzing with concern.
As reactions pour in over the delay surrounding Vijay’s swansong, actor Silambarasan TR has stepped forward to publicly back the superstar, stressing that celebrations will truly begin only when Jana Nayagan finally reaches the big screen.
Silambarasan TR stands by Thalapathy Vijay
Taking to social media, Silambarasan TR shared a heartfelt message of solidarity, reminding Vijay of his resilience. “Dear Vijay anna, setbacks have never stopped you. You’ve crossed bigger storms than this. This too shall pass. The real Thiruvizha begins on the day Jana Nayagan releases,” he wrote.

Ravi Mohan also echoed similar sentiments, noting that Pongal festivities would feel complete only once the film is released, further highlighting the industry-wide support Vijay is receiving during this uncertain phase.
Why Jana Nayagan was postponed
Jana Nayagan is still awaiting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification. With the process stalled, the production house has reportedly moved the judiciary seeking a resolution. The makers are expected to announce a new release date only after a final verdict is delivered.
An official press note has already been issued confirming the postponement, and reports suggest that both domestic and international ticket bookings have been refunded to audiences.
More about Jana Nayagan
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is being positioned as Thalapathy Vijay’s final cinematic outing. The film follows Vetri Kondan, a former police officer turned convict who adopts a young girl, Viji, and is determined to raise her as a fearless, independent woman. Despite her deep-seated fear of violence, he pushes her toward a life of discipline and service by encouraging her to join the military.
As a catastrophic threat begins to loom over the nation, pushing India toward the brink of destruction, Vetri Kondan is drawn back into conflict. What unfolds is a high-stakes battle involving personal vengeance, systemic corruption, and a desperate attempt to avert national disaster.
Alongside Vijay, the film features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Sunil, and several others in pivotal roles.
For now, fans await clarity on the certification process, hopeful that Jana Nayagan’s eventual release will turn the delay into a moment of celebration rather than disappointment.
