Bank Holiday Calendar: A sense of uncertainty continues among bank customers on April 2, 2026, as many remain unsure whether branches are open on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. It’s better to check beforehand
if you are planning to visit a bank in your area.
Are Banks Open On Hanuman Jayanti?
At first glance, people assumed that Hanuman Jayanti would mean a nationwide bank holiday. However, April 2 is not a pan-India bank holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Instead, the day is marked as a holiday only in select regions, which is Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram for Maundy Thursday.
Maundy Thursday is a Christian holy day observed during Holy Week, just before Good Friday. It commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples.

Banks will remain closed in most parts of India on April 3, 2026, on account of Good Friday, with shutdown observed in cities including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada, while banks are likely to remain open in select locations such as Chandigarh, Jaipur, New Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar.
