series’ creators have disputed Munson’s comeback; yet, this particular hypothesis resonates well with fans.
Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn, was killed in Stranger Things’ fourth season. He perished in a courageous standoff with Demobats in the Upside Down. Since Eddie’s death, many followers have been looking for signs that he may return, especially through the show’s long-standing use of Dungeons & Dragons mythology. One incredibly common fan theory connects Eddie to Kas the Bloody Handed, a D&D character who turns vampire after betraying Vecna.

Stranger Things 5: What Are Fans Saying?
Despite conversations and rumours, there is no solid evidence or clue that Eddie survived or would return in Stranger Things Season 5. Eddie Munson’s death by bat-like monsters has prompted many to speculate that he may return as a vampire in the final season. Bats are often connected with vampires in popular culture. The fandom also believes Kas’s lore could be a plot twist that the Duffer brothers can use in the final season.
Eddie, on the other hand, is absent from flashbacks, hallucinations, and the plot for the entirety of Season 5. His death is mentioned primarily to enhance Dustin’s emotional journey, supporting the notion that Eddie’s story has already concluded. Ross Duffer addressed the theory directly in early December 2025, saying, “There’s some wild theories, even for season 5. Eddie is not a vampire. I will say that much.”
Interestingly, Season 5 Part 2 contains a vampire reference, but it has nothing to do with Eddie Munson. In Episode 5, Kali informs Eleven that Dr. Kay frequently sucked her blood, which made her think of him as “a kind of vampire.” This has further fueled speculations among fans.
