Iran on Wednesday it fired cruise missiles at the US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, compelling the warship to change its position, in a move Tehran described as asserting its maritime sovereignty.
The claim was made in a statement carried by Iranian state television on Wednesday.
“The Iranian Navy’s Qader cruise missiles (shore-based anti-ship missile) targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier belonging to the US and forced it to change its position,” the statement said.

Iran warned that further strikes could occur if the carrier group comes within the range of its missile systems, Tehran’s state broadcaster Press TV reported.
Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani was cited as saying that the movements of the US carrier strike group are “constantly being monitored” and that any hostile approach will be met with “powerful strikes by the Iranian Navy.”
Press TV further reported that the operation was intended to assert Iran’s control over its waters and counter potential threats posed by the US-led fleet. Washington has not yet responded to the latest claim.
The USS Abraham Lincoln has been operating in the Persian Gulf region amid the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran, which began on February 28, that also killed the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the first hour of the war
This is not the first time the carrier has been targeted in Iranian claims. On March 6, Iranian state television reported that drones launched by the Revolutionary Guards struck the Lincoln.
The Pentagon had denied the report, saying the missiles “didn’t even come close” to the vessel.
The United States currently has two aircraft carriers deployed in the Middle East as part of its operations alongside Israel.
