The BJP secured a historic victory in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly, winning 207 seats and ending the 15-year rule of the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee.
Suvendu Adhikari, who emerged as one of the BJP’s most prominent leaders in Bengal after switching from the TMC in 2020, played a central role in the party’s aggressive campaign against the ruling dispensation.
Soon after his election as BJP legislature party leader, Suvendu Adhikari urged party workers and MLAs to stand up and raise slogans of “Narendra Modi Zindabad,” triggering loud cheers at the venue.
His swearing-in ceremony as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal is expected to take place in the coming days.
