Rajkumar Hirani’s blockbuster film 3 Idiots, starringAamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi in the lead roles, still remains one of the most iconic films in Bollywood. The movie, released
15 years ago in 2009, still excites fans whenever there is buzz about the possibility of a sequel. But is there any reality to the news? Read on to know what we know.
As per an earlier report in Pinkvilla, Rajkumar Hirani has locked the script of 3 Idiots 2, and the film is set to go on floors in 2026. The report also claimed that the sequel would bring back its iconic cast, including Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, R. Madhavan, and Sharman Joshi. However, in a recent update, Aamir Khan and R. Madhavan have revealed that neither of them has been approached for any such project as of now.
When Bollywood Hungama approached the two leads of the film, Aamir and Madhavan confirmed that they have not been part of any such discussion. R. Madhavan, while calling the idea of making a sequel to the cult film “idiotic,” said, “A sequel to 3 Idiots sounds great. But it also sounds far-fetched. All three of us—Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, and I—are much older now. Where do we go in the sequel? What are our lives like now? It is an interesting thought, but hardly conducive to a proper sequel. I would love to work with Raju Hirani again. But 3 Idiots again? I think that would be idiotic.”
Meanwhile, Aamir, who would love to do the film, shared, “We had so much fun making that film! My character Rancho is the most popular character I’ve played. People still talk about Rancho. So yeah, I’d love to do a sequel. But no one has approached me.”
