Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated incumbent chief minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee in her home turf in Bhabanipur in the recently held assembly elections, has set his sights on the 2027
Uttar Pradesh polls and warned Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav, saying that the BJP’s next focus is Lucknow.
“Mamata (Banerjee), Tejashwi (Yadav), Rahul (Gandhi) finished, Akhilesh (Yadav) is next.”
Adhikari’s swipe at Akhilesh Yadav comes as the SP chief is expected to be the BJP’s principal challenger in the state, which is set to go to polls next year.

Bouyant from historic victories in Bhabanipur and Nandigram, Adhikari asserted that the electoral outcome reflected a decisive shift in public sentiment.
“This is the win of people, they have thrown away misgovernance, corruption, and anti-Hindu government. They have wiped them out…” Adhikari said.
Adhikari described the result as a rejection of alleged corruption and governance failures, crediting voters for delivering what he termed a decisive verdict.
“I express my gratefulness to party workers, will take them along, fulfil their expectations, will ensure women safety,” he said, outlining priorities for governance.
He also added, “The politics of appeasement will be finished.”
The BJP leader, who has emerged as one of the top faces for the saffron party in West Bengal further emphasised that defeating Mamata Banerjee was crucial, adding that the assembly results signal Banerjee’s retirement from politics.
Who Is Suvendu Adhikari?
Suvendu Adhikari is an MLA from Nandigram in West Bengal. A grassroots leader, he once helped turn East Midnapore into a Trinamool stronghold.
The 55-year-old comes from a prominent political family that has a strong influence in East Midnapore. They are often called the “political monarchs” in the area.
Suvendu’s father, Sisir Adhikari, served as a Union minister in the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh-led UPA-2 government.

Final figures showed the saffron party winning 206 seats, while the TMC lagged behind with 80 seats and a marginal lead in one constituency, as per Election Commission data on Tuesday morning.
The majority mark in the 294-member House is 148. The result signals a decisive shift in the state’s political direction and ideological balance.
For the first time in decades, West Bengal is poised to be governed by the same party that holds power at the Centre, a development likely to have far-reaching administrative and political consequences.
