Mumbai witnessed its first spell of pre-monsoon rain in several eastern suburbs, bringing temporary relief from the heat but also signalling the arrival of the city’s unpredictable monsoon season.
Areas
such as Mulund and Bhandup received showers accompanied by cloudy skies and gusty winds, changing the weather mood across parts of the city, as reported by Maharashtra Times. Residents shared visuals of dark clouds and sudden rainfall on social media as temperatures dipped slightly after days of humid conditions.
The showers are being viewed as an early indication of the approaching monsoon season in Maharashtra. According to weather updates, parts of the Thane district and adjoining Mumbai regions are likely to continue receiving isolated light rain and thundershowers over the coming days.
Relief From Heat, But Humidity Persists
While the rain brought relief from intense afternoon heat, humidity levels remained high in many parts of Mumbai and neighbouring suburbs.

Commuters welcomed the cooler breeze after several days of rising temperatures, though many also expressed concerns over possible waterlogging and traffic disruptions once the full monsoon arrives.

Mumbai has historically witnessed transport disruptions during heavy rainfall, especially on major road networks and rail routes.
Metro 3 Services Hit During Peak Hours
In another development that added to commuter inconvenience, services on Mumbai Metro’s Aqua Line 3 faced disruption during peak office hours on Friday morning, as reported by The Times Of india.
According to reports, Metro 3 operations remained affected for nearly an hour, leaving several office-goers stranded at stations with limited clarity regarding service restoration. The disruption reportedly caused crowding at multiple stations as passengers waited for updates during one of the busiest commuting periods of the day.
Several regular commuters expressed frustration over the lack of communication during the halt in services. The Aqua Line has become an important travel corridor for many office workers in Mumbai due to its faster connectivity across key business districts.
Later, Metro 3 released a statement saying that train services on both the downline and upline routes had faced delays earlier in the day due to a technical fault. Officials added that the issue had now been resolved and normal operations had resumed across the line.
Concerns Over Monsoon Preparedness Return
The combination of pre-monsoon showers and metro disruption has once again triggered discussions around Mumbai’s infrastructure preparedness ahead of the rainy season. Last year, parts of Metro Line 3 had also witnessed flooding-related concerns during heavy rainfall, raising questions about drainage systems and water management around underground stations.
Authorities are expected to closely monitor transport systems and vulnerable areas as Mumbai gradually moves towards the peak monsoon period in the coming weeks.
