Bangladesh has begun receiving an additional 5,000 tonnes of diesel from India through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain steady fuel supplies, officials said
on Friday.
The latest consignment is being delivered to the Parbatipur Padma Oil depot, with supplies starting to arrive from the morning of April 16, according to depot officials.
Steady inflow of fuel supplies
Officials said the new shipment follows a series of recent deliveries routed from Numaligarh Refinery Limited in Assam.
- 8,000 tonnes were received on April 14
- 22,000 tonnes had arrived in March
- A total of 30,000 tonnes was delivered between March and mid-April
With the latest supply, Bangladesh is expected to receive around 25,000 tonnes of diesel in April alone, with further shipments already planned.
More deliveries expected
Depot authorities said another 7,000 tonnes of diesel is likely to arrive within the next four to five days, ensuring continued fuel availability.
“The government is continuing to import diesel from India through pipelines to maintain normal fuel stocks and ensure uninterrupted supply,” depot manager Md Ahsan Habib Chowdhury said.

To manage the incoming supplies efficiently, the Parbatipur depot remained operational even on a public holiday, underscoring the priority given to fuel distribution.
The cross-border pipeline has become a key energy lifeline for Bangladesh, enabling faster and more cost-effective fuel transportation compared to traditional shipping methods.
