Star England centre-back Harry Maguire has picked his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Pogba, John Stones, Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes and Riyad Mahrez in his dream five-a-side football
team, choosing among players with whom he has shared a pitch.
Maguire began by selecting English centre-back Stones, with whom he plays for the national side, at the back.
Maguire named Portugal star Fernandes in midfield, alongside former teammate, France midfielder Paul Pogba, who joined AS Monaco this summer. Algerian winger Mahrez, who played alongside Maguire at Leicester City, was included in the side as well.
Maguire completed his five-a-side team by choosing Ronaldo in attack. The former played alongside Ronaldo during his second stint at Manchester United.
“It’s a good team now,” United legend Rio Ferdinand said during the chat.
“Not bad. I don’t like to defend against that,” Maguire said.
The star English defender has registered 246 appearances for Manchester United to date, scoring 15 goals and assisting eight more. Maguire shared the field 36 times with Ronaldo for Manchester United.
Meanwhile, the club signed Slovenian international Benjamin Sesko on Saturday, making him the third forward the 20-time English champions have acquired in the close season.
Only four other teams scored fewer than United’s 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches last season as the English giants endured their worst campaign for 51 years, finishing 15th in the table.
Sesko, who has scored 16 goals in 41 international appearances, is United’s third major attacking signing after the recruitment of Matheus Cunha for £62.5m from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo, who joined from Brentford for £65m with £6m in add-ons.
Sesko had been linked with Newcastle as well, but once again, Eddie Howe’s League Cup winners couldn’t land their target despite being able to offer European football this season, unlike Manchester United.
Sesko, though, said that he felt a vibrancy at United as they seek to rebound from a disappointing 2024-2025 campaign under 40-year-old Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim.
“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created,” Sesko said.
