Such is the aura of Jasprit Bumrah that, despite missing the final Test between India and England at The Oval, the 31-year-old premier pacer became one of the top-trending keywords in India. Why? Because
Bumrah’s workload management and reported knee injury, ahead of the final clash, along with the need to safeguard his back, kept him away from doing what he loved. This led to the formation of two sides on the Internet. One believed that Bumrah should have simply shown up for all five Test clashes in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The other clan, which included the likes of Australian great Glenn McGrath, who believed that the No.1 Test bowler needed a much-needed break from action, an off-season, as he was bound to get injured, given he put so much into every ball he delivered.
This time around, the cricket “fans” have found another reason to get upset with Bumrah, and it has something to do with his new Instagram post.
Great Memories
Bumrah, in a heartfelt Instagram post, looked back at the series that produced several moments of brilliance on the cricket field between the two highly competitive nations and the 25 days of Test cricket that turned into an enthralling away series for India.
“We take back great memories from a highly competitive and enthralling test series! Looking forward to what’s next,” the bowler captioned his update.
“Where’s Siraj?”
“Why didn’t Bumrah mention Mohammed Siraj?” The online commentators wondered why there was no specific mention of his fellow teammate Siraj, who played a pivotal role in India’s hard-fought drawn series against the hosts, England.
Bumrah’s multiple photo upload included snaps of himself in action on the field, while two slides captured the team and support staff that travelled to England.

The Bumrah Hate
Bumrah has been subjected to incessant trolling and criticism through the course of the five-match Test series. The premier pacer had to sit out two Test matches to rest his body and avoid any potential major injuries that would perhaps keep him away from the cricket field.
Despite missing two Test matches, Bumrah scalped 14 English wickets, the fourth-highest in the bowling chart. The third on the list was England captain Ben Stokes with 17 in 4 matches. Josh Tongue settled for the second spot with 19 wickets in 3 Tests. India’s Mohammed Siraj topped the list with 23 wickets. The pacer, who became the primary bowler in India’s bowling attack, had an impressive attendance of 100%.
Mohammed Siraj Shines
In the absence of Bumrah, Siraj stepped up and how. Knowing that the entire nation had now pinned their hopes on him, Siraj produced the performance of his lifetime as he ran the hard yards day in and day out across all five Test matches he featured in for India.
Siraj delivered 1113 balls or 185.3 overs in total and picked 23 wickets at an average of 32.43. The cricketer, who hails from Hyderabad, picked 9 of those in the final Test at The Oval alone, a performance that was instrumental in helping India secure a well-deserved drawn series. The final Test card between India and England read 2-2.

England, needing 35 runs on the fifth and final day at The Oval attracted thousands of fans to the stadium on a cheerful Monday morning. India held their nerves, and Siraj picked three out of the four remaining English wickets to bring up a nail-biting win for the visiting side captained by Player of the Series Shubman Gill.
Fittingly enough, the last English batter to depart, Gus Atkinson, was castled by Siraj. Siraj took home the Player of the Match award.
India snatched the match by 6 runs.
