Few films in Hindi cinema have achieved the kind of timeless, cross-generational appeal that Mr India continues to enjoy decades after its release. Headlined by Anil Kapoor in the titular role, the film also
featured Sridevi in a career-defining performance, with Amrish Puri delivering one of Indian cinema’s most unforgettable villains as Mogambo. Now, Imran Khan has expressed his desire to create a remake of the film.
During a recently held AMA session on Reddit, a fan asked Imran Khan, “Hi Imran, I wanted to ask if you ever get a chance to rewrite (from your perspective) any iconic character (including superheroes) from any industry in the world, whom will you choose?” The actor’s response surprised all his fans.

Imran Khan replied, “This is going to sound crazy, but… for years I’ve dreamt of making a sequel to Mr India. I love the original; I think it’s a textbook case for how to make a fantastical comic book movie while still feeling grounded and emotional. It’s fantastic. And Anil Kapoor looks even better today than he did back then.”
The actor was then asked, “We all love Mr India, he is a legendary character, and it would be very exciting to see a modern take on his journey, so there is nothing crazy about it, but this gets me curious will you keep him as heroic or would you like to take a chance of turning him into a classic anti hero character?”
Imran Khan responded, “For me, the beauty of the character lies in his earnestness and idealism.” Another fan replied to the actor, “Dude, I really think the charm and innocence which Anil ji had in the og movie can be done justice by you in a remake. Do let me know where I sign up for this to be made a reality.”
Another fan added, “Could you BE more relatable?? Mr India is a cult classic that I have introduced to my kids recently. Important to pass on our sanskriti, sanskaar and parampara to the next generation. Please make this happen!!” A fan of the actor also wrote, “Second this ✊.”
For the unversed, at its heart, Mr India tells the story of Arun Verma, a kind-hearted man who takes care of a group of orphaned children despite his own financial struggles. His life takes an extraordinary turn when he discovers a device created by his scientist father that can render a person invisible. Using this newfound power, Arun becomes the masked vigilante “Mr India,” fighting against injustice and ultimately taking on the tyrannical Mogambo, whose sinister plans threaten the nation.
