Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk on Monday said he will end his hunger strike only if the Centre accepts responsibility for recent failures in the education system, including examination
paper leaks, or if Members of Parliament assure him that the issue of education accountability will be taken up during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
In a post on X on the opening day of the Monsoon Session, Wangchuk announced three specific conditions under which he would call off his fast, which he has continued despite being admitted to Safdarjung Hospital under medical supervision.
In his X post, Wangchuk wrote, “I will end my fast on 20th July if:
a. If the govt takes accountability for the recent failures in the education system, Paper leaks, etc or
b. If the leadership of CJP and I reach the doorsteps of Parliament, where MPs and leaders of various parties assure us that they will now take up the issue in the Parliament or
c. If my health or other factors do not permit this, then the MPs and leaders of different parties visit this Hospital and give the above assurance.”
He further alleged that he was posting “from the illegal detentions at Safdarjung Hospital, where my freedom of movement, speech and communication are restricted.”
The activist has been demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities, including paper leaks, and has sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
