Postponement Driven by Lack of Consensus
Announcing the delay via social media platform X, Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi stated that the decision was taken “in the interests of consensus”. The Omani Foreign Ministry emphasised that postponing the assembly aims to foster appropriate conditions for constructive dialogue capable of yielding sustainable regional security agreements.

The boycott underscored deeper political friction among Gulf states regarding direct engagement with Iran, while broader conflict and maritime blockades continue to impact trade corridors.
High Stakes for the Strait of Hormuz
The proposed agenda centred on a draft agreement finalised between Iran and Oman to establish a restructured maritime corridor through the Strait of Hormuz. Under the negotiated blueprint, commercial vessels would navigate entry into the Gulf via designated Iranian territorial waters and exit primarily through Omani-controlled shipping lanes.
Iranian officials clarified that while the proposed arrangement intends to introduce structured operational rules for commercial vessels, it does not mark a full reopening of the waterway. Tehran maintains that lasting maritime security remains contingent on broader international agreements and the removal of naval blockades affecting its own trade routes.
