The visit is part of a broader pattern of sustained engagement by the Prime Minister with the Christian community over the past few years. In Easter 2023, Modi attended an Easter programme at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in the national capital, interacting with members of the clergy and the congregation.
During Christmas 2023, the Prime Minister hosted a special programme for Christian leaders at his official residence, 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, emphasising dialogue, inclusivity and mutual respect. His outreach continued in 2024, when he attended a Christmas dinner at the residence of Union Minister George Kurian and also participated in a programme organised by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI).
These successive engagements underscore the Prime Minister’s continued outreach to the Christian community, with a consistent focus on messages of peace, compassion and social harmony.
Meanwhile, cities across the country have been decked up with lights, bells and wreaths as people immerse themselves in the festive spirit of Christmas. Market streets and storefronts are adorned with Santa Claus sleighs, bells, glowing stars and Christmas trees, creating a vibrant atmosphere as preparations for the celebrations continue.
Christmas, observed on December 25, is celebrated with joy, happiness and compassion to mark the birth of Jesus Christ, carrying a message of peace, love and harmony. On the occasion, families gather to share meals, exchange gifts, sing Christmas carols and spread warmth during the winter season. Churches hold special prayers, and the festival is celebrated worldwide with great enthusiasm and significance for Christians.
