Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra faced protests in West Bengal’s Nadia on Tuesday morning, with demonstrators raising “Go Back, Go Back” and “Chor, Chor!” slogans as she arrived for an organisational
meeting in Chapra.
A video of the incident shows Moitra surrounded by TMC workers as protesters gather around her and raise slogans. The demonstrators are seen waving black flags during the protest.
Moitra is seen addressing the protesters briefly, although what she says is inaudible in the video. She then gets into her Toyota Innova and leaves the spot as the slogans continue.
The latest protest comes weeks after Moitra was targeted in an egg-pelting incident in Nadia, when protesters hurled eggs and other objects at a TMC office where she was meeting party workers.
The incident had prompted the TMC to approach the Calcutta High Court, which subsequently directed the Bengal government to ensure FIRs were registered in cases of egg-pelting.
The July 1 incident was also captured on video. One of the videos showed protesters outside the office hurling eggs towards the premises while raising slogans, while another, recorded by Moitra herself from inside, showed eggs striking the windows as she filmed the incident.
