The Delhi Police on Friday dismissed reports claiming that the passports of people allegedly involved in the violence during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar would be cancelled.
Describing the reports as “misleading”, the force clarified in a post on X that no such decision had been taken.
“No such decision has been announced to cancel the passports of CJP protestors.”

The police also urged people not to circulate or amplify misleading information and advised them to rely only on official updates.
The clarification came after several media reports claimed that authorities were identifying individuals allegedly involved in the July 20 violence using CCTV footage, video recordings and other technical evidence, and that action to cancel their passports could be initiated under applicable legal provisions.
Violence broke out in parts of Delhi on July 20 after the CJP launched its ‘Chalo Sansad’ march towards Parliament, resulting in injuries to both protesters and police personnel. During the clashes, Delhi Police used tear gas and carried out a baton charge to disperse the crowd.
While the protesters accused the police of using excessive force, the police maintained that they had acted with restraint and intervened only to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, representatives of the CJP and Union ministers are expected to meet at the Constitution Club of India on Friday to discuss the protesters’ demands.
Separately, activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his hunger strike late on Thursday night at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after remaining on an indefinite fast since June 28. He had been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak.
Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, senior leaders of the Apex Body of Leh Ladakh, doctors and Wangchuk’s family members were present when he ended the fast. Visuals showed the ministers reading out the government’s assurances before Wangchuk broke his fast.
“The government is positive about not registering cases against those protesting peacefully at Jantar Mantar in Delhi and those participating in the march to the Parliament on July 20, 2026. The government has already assured its discussions to find solutions to paper leaks and educational reforms for exams in the Parliament. Besides, the government is also positively considering suitable compensations for the suicide victims of recent NEET paper leaks,” Nadda said.
He then helped Wangchuk take a sip of soup from a cup, marking the end of the hunger strike.
“I’m grateful and happy to break my fast. Thank you,” Wangchuk told the ministers.
